Sony RX100M4 First Impressions

First impressions of the Sony RX100M4 camera.

First of all, I was waiting for the Nikon DL24-85 camera that was supposed to be released in July, and that never happened due to Sony have issues in Europe. Now they are saying sometime in October...Great! Summer is here, and wanted a small camera that can shot 4K, and last weekend went out to have a look around at the Sony camera's. I looked at the a6300 and the RX100M4, but the thing was that there heating issues with the a6300 which sent a red flag off. Any way, went their camera store, and had a look at both of these cameras once again, and decided to maybe rethink this through. Looked at a comparison of both of these cameras. After that we checked out the Panasonic camera, and did not like that you cannot tilt the screen. It was at this point and made a decision to purchase the RX100M4 camera. One thing that I liked was the super slow motion you get with this camera.

The camera is small and you can put it in your pocket, although it is a heavy camera for it's size. Easy to take with you and not have to worry about big lens and takes good pictures. It's by far not a cheap camera to purchase $1195.99, and the Nikon camera was around $800.00 and that was not available and paid more for the Sony to have the availability to shoot video this summer.

Now, I played around with all the menu settings trying to get used to the camera, and not the easiest camera to figure out. It took me some time and many recharging of the battery to figure out this little puppy. Now I see why others have complained about this as well.

What I like about it, is the 20mp for starters, and takes great pictures too. I went of first time to shoot some test video with it this morning and was impressed with the camera, but the guy at the end of the camera needs to work on his skills. Just need to hone in to making the adjustments better and not try to shoot without the tripod and stop be lazy. Now got home and had a look and even though I made some mistakes I was happy overall with the results. Now the one thing I managed to do with the slow motion, this was the reason for getting the Sony was you can shot video at 24P and at 960fps which gives you x40 slow motion video, the test I did was 30p 960fps x32 slow motion, and not the best part of the video, but just needed better lighting for the morning would have much better, but again learning as you you. Overall was impressed and as I mentioned just need to keep with playing around with the new toy.

What bugged me!

The camera battery is charged inside the camera was not impressed with that part, and ordered the accessory kit, which allows you to charge the battery externally and comes with a battery, so now I have 2 batteries. Cheap charger, but it works.

Overall

Once I figure out the menus and settings, it's a super camera that works really well as far as the results I have produced, and glad that I purchased the camera.
